Eamonn Darcy is a distinguished figure in the fields of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Quantum Computing, with a career marked by significant contributions to academia, industry, and government initiatives.
His journey in these fields began in 2001 when he earned a Masters degree and a Postgraduate Diploma in e-Commerce from Murdoch University, Western Australia. It was during this time that he first delved into Quantum Cryptography, AI, and Machine Learning, laying the foundation for his future endeavors.
In 2018, Eamonn founded the Quantum Education Centre of Western Australia (QUECWA), demonstrating his commitment to the education and proliferation of quantum computing knowledge. The same year, he authored and presented an introductory course on quantum computing titled "What makes quantum computers so SPECIAL??" This course was developed with the aim of demystifying the complex world of quantum computing for beginners.
Eamonn's expertise was recognized by IBM, and he was approved as an IBM Quantum Educator. He further showcased his knowledge in 2019 when he presented at the IBM Quantum Summer Camp. His ability to communicate complex topics effectively was again demonstrated in 2020 when he presented online to over 600 members of the Australian Computer Society (ACS).
In 2021, Eamonn began presenting on AI and Quantum Computing (AQ) to work-experience students at CSIRO-Pawsey. His dedication to developing the next generation of quantum computing professionals is evident in his contributions to the Quantum Girls project. This national initiative, founded by the University of Western Australia (UWA), aims to address the underrepresentation of schoolgirls in STEM and quantum computing fields. Eamonn developed the training materials on AQ for this project, furthering its mission.
In 2023, Eamonn's influence in the field was further solidified when he was appointed to the Advisory Committee for Quantum Girls, the largest government-funded Quantum Computing project. His contributions to this project are instrumental in shaping the future of quantum computing in Australia.
Eamonn has also made significant strides in the international quantum computing community. He is the author and presenter of "The Intermediate Principles of Quantum Computing," a course approved and utilized by QMunity, a leading quantum startup based in New York.
Eamonn's contributions to academia, industry, and government initiatives have not gone unnoticed. He has been nominated for an Adjunct Research Fellow at UWA, a testament to his expertise and influence in the field of Quantum Computing and AI.
Eamonn Darcy's career is characterized by his passion for Quantum Computing and AI, his dedication to education, and his commitment to fostering diversity within the field. His work continues to inspire and educate future generations of quantum computing professionals.
